With over 25 years of hands-on experience, Silvia Karlovcan Ormanec has built a reputation as one of Melbourne’s most trusted ceramists. Founder of Universal Dental Laboratory, Silvia is known for creating restorations that achieve the perfect balance of aesthetics, function, and harmony. Her work reflects an exceptional eye for detail, inspired by the natural shapes, shades, and textures of dentition, and backed by a career dedicated to technical excellence.
Silvia’s skills were honed under the mentorship of Barry Smith – a pioneer in the Australian dental industry – whose influence shaped her uncompromising standards for quality and precision. She began her career with a Dental Technician qualification in Croatia (1998), advancing her expertise through international experience in London UK and Auckland NZ before settling in Melbourne in 2003. For over two decades, she served as Senior Ceramist at one of Melbourne’s leading dental laboratories, trusted by clinicians for complex, high-aesthetic cases.
In 2022, Silvia launched her own laboratory to offer something unique to dentists – direct collaboration with the ceramist who will complete their case, ensuring consistent quality and tailored results. Every case is approached individually, combining advanced techniques with an artistic touch to deliver restorations that seamlessly integrate with the patient’s smile.
Beyond the lab, Silvia is an avid plant lover, photographer, cake maker, and gym enthusiast – but her proudest role is being mum to her two sons and daughter.
